Genie Ramp 18.Jpg

Helping the nation is one of our core missions: protecting the Belgian population. We assist and protect our fellow citizens during various operations on land, at sea, and in the air.

Our mission

  • When the unthinkable happens –such as a flood,  industrial disaster or a plane crash – our Territorial Protection Company (Cie Proter) is always ready. With around 150 women and men, we are  rapidly deployable, disciplined, and  capable of carrying out a wide range of tasks during crises on Belgian soil.

Background

  • We support the fire brigade, police, and civil protection services with manpower, logistics, and technical expertise. For example, we assist during large-scale evacuations, CBRN incidents, search operations, and aviation accidents.

Our readiness strengthens national resilience, enabling the government to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies. In doing so, the Ministry of Defence becomes a vital link in protecting civilians , infrastructure, and the environment.

Impact today

  • On average, our unit is deployed about four times a year. The number of interventions largely depends on the number of incidents within Belgium, and fortunately, we have been spared major crises in recent years. Given the volatile international security landscape and the growing impact of climate change, we must not lose sight of our national safety net.
