Our missions
Belgian military personnel are deployed around the world at any given time to prevent, contain or manage conflicts. We often do this in coalition or in collaboration with international partners.
Why missions?
We protect Belgium, that is our mission.
The security of our country starts far beyond our own borders. That is why the main focus of our missions lies abroad. Our primary task is the collective defence of our national territory and that of NATO.
Through our participation in international crisis management operations, we also actively contribute to peace and security far beyond the borders of the EU and NATO. In doing this, we protect our vital interests worldwide.
In acute crisis situations where Belgian citizens are directly threatened, we are ready to guarantee their physical safety and repatriate them. In doing so, Defence protects not only the country, but all Belgians, wherever they are in the world. By participating in humanitarian operations, we also help civilian populations in other countries.
