The Defense and Support Group consists of 470 members. Tasking: to secure and protect the safety of the personnel and materials meaning tp provide protection against low altitude air raids, nuclear, biological and chemical threads. Otherwise the group provides the necessary general support for the unit like catering and logement, the administration, the maintenance of the operational infrastructure and the physical readiness.
Since 1968 the city of Maaseik accepted godfatherhood over the Defense and Support Group. As from 2001, the Defense and Support Group has been godfather of the young people boarding school of the service centre "Hof ter Engelen" in Maaseik.
