1 Wing Historical Center

The main purpose of the 1 Wing Historical Center is to evoke the history of Beauvechain airbase since 1935 and especially the history of the Fighter Sqadrons between 1946 and 1996. This small museum was able to obtain some damaged aicrafts but they have been restored and are on display.
Also on display are some aicrafts engines and service and service vehicles. The center also remembers Burstem air base as well Goetsenhoven air base meanwihle both closed.

The history of the Airbase
|
The official name of Beauvechain air base is « Base Charles Roman » . Wing Commander Charles Roman died in action while in command of six squadrons. Between 1946 and 1996 the 1st Fighter Wing operated the following aircrafts Spitfire, Mosquito, Meteor, CF-100, F-104 and F-16.

42nd Recce Squadron operating the RF-84F, has also been located on the airbase for about three years. The 1st Fighter Wing started with the 349 and 350 Squadrons, bot during WWII, with Belgian pilots, within the RAF. Since 1996 elementary pilot training as well as advanced pilot training take place at Beauvechain AB. The weather service Meteo Wing also moved from Brussels suburbs to Beauvechain.

- The « Aeronautique Militaire » before 10may 1940;
- WWII, German occupation;
- Tha RCAF and USAAF in 1944 and 1945;
- The other halls evoke a.o. the different aircrafts operate by the 1st Fighter Wing as well as the different squadrons 4th, 10th, 11th, 349th, 350 th and the Auxilliary Squadron;
- The meteo wing;
- The Elementry Flying School at Goetsenhoven AB before 1996;
- Radio and radar aquipement;
- Military pigeons;
- Different diorama’s;
- Ground support equipenment;
- A reproduction of a Pilot dispersal;
- Aircrafts engines.
