Belgium sends two extra F-16 to Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan on NATO's request. The Alliance increaced her ground forces and therefore needs extra air support for the troops. The 2 Belgian F-16 are flying this moment towards Kandahar. On August 11, 2009, 11:00 local time, 03 F-16 took off from Istris (France) along with a tanker from the French Air Force. Initially 04 aircraft were prepared (spares). After the first air refueling and when all conditions were perfect, one of the aircraft returned to Belgium. The two other continued their flight to KAF. 03 air refuelings are needed. ELT in Kandahar: 17:30 local time. Besides the two F-16, technicians, missionplanners and two extra pilots are mandatory wich brings the count of Belgian troops to 120. The extra F-16 support is planned until the end of 2009. The other four aircraft will remain in KAF until end 2010.
