F-16 sold to Jordan
F-16 sold to Jordan

Our country has sold sixteen F-16 fighters to Jordan: four dual seaters and twelve single. All the F-16 received their Middle Life Update (MLU). The sale is the result of an official agreement which both countries signed in February 2007.

Begin September, the first four aircraft departed from Kleine Brogel AB to their new home: Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, ninety kilometers east of the capital Amman. The other aircraft will be flown over in the coming months.

In late nineties, ninety F-16 received a thorough modernisation. This Middle Life Update (MLU), one of the most powerful F-16 versions, was ready to remain in service beyond 2020.
Early this century 'the Strategic Plan 2000 - 2015' reduced the fleet to 72 aircraft. The General Directorate Material Resources therefore was seeking a buyer for the supernumerary MLU aircraft. These were operational "stored" at the airport of Weelde.

Jordan expressed interest early 2006. After a favourable opinion of the United States the sale was completed.
